This famous South American cocktail has grown in popularity in the last two decades, and is perfect for Australia’s sunny summer weather. Fresh lime and vodka give the drink a tart bite which is offset by the sweetness of the sugar.

Quick Guide

What is it?
The Caipiroska is a variation on the Caipirinha, a cocktail made with cachaca. In the case of the Caipiroska, the cachaca is replaced with vodka.

Where is it from?
It's a variation of the Caipirinha, a Brazilian cocktail.

What does it taste like?
A Caipiroska has a more neutral flavour than a Caipirinha — cachaca has a particular potency that takes a bit of getting used to.

*Crushing the lime and sugar together is also known as ‘muddling’. A quick and easy way to muddle the two is to use the end of a rolling pin, but don’t go overboard – you don’t want essential oils in the lime rind to make the drink bitter.

  • 1/2 a lime, cut into quarters
  • 45ml vodka
  • 1tsp caster sugar

1. Crush lime and sugar in a cocktail shaker.*
2. Add vodka and shake with ice.
3. Pour into glass with crushed ice.
