Cuba Libre

Technically, the Cuba Libre is a rum and Coke. Not to be confused with what comes out of a small town in northern Queensland in truck loads, but instead a refined and exotic Cuban celebration. Use high-quality white rum, a twist of fresh lime and a sturdy highball glass to make a proper Cuba Libre.

Quick Guide

Cuba Libre

What is it?
Cuba Libre is a highball made of cola, lime, and white rum. This highball is often referred to as a Rum and Coke in the United States, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand where the lime juice may or may not be included.

Where is it from?
Although mystery surrounds its exact origin the only certainty is that this cocktail was first sipped in Cuba between 1898 and 1900.

What does it taste like?
A Cuba Libre is defined by the unique flavours of the rum used, the better the rum the better the experience. Flavours will vary with the refreshing cola and lime mixed with undertones of coconut and vanilla.

Another variation of the Cuba Libre is the Cuban Missile Crisis. Compared to a normal Cuba Libre, it uses a higher proof rum, such as Bacardi 151 (75.5% ABV).
