What is it?
Sangria is a delicious fruit-based wine punch made with red wine, fresh fruit and lemonade. 

Where is it from?
Sangria is a typical beverage from Spain. It is named after the Spanish word for "bloodletting" because of its typical dark-red colour.

What does it taste like?
Being a refreshing mix of fresh fruit, lemonade, fruity wine red wine and brandy make Sangria a refreshing and mellow summer punch indeed. If you want to dial back to sweetness levels you can substitute the lemonade for soda water.



White wine can be used instead of red, in which case the result is called Sangria Blanca.


  • 4 oranges
  • 2 lemons
  • 1 punnet strawberries, halved
  • 1 apple, unpeeled, core removed, diced
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 750ml merlot
  • 1/4 cup caster sugar
  • 750ml lemonade


1. Cut 1 orange and 1 lemon into small wedges and place in a large bowl. Add apple, cinnamon and brandy. Stir to combine. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
2. Juice remaining oranges and lemon. Combine with lemonade, wine and sugar in a jug. Add the apple mixture and fresh strawberries. Stir to combine. 
3. Spoon crushed ice into glasses. Pour over sangria and serve.
