Singapore Sling

What is it?
A Singapore Sling is a cocktail made with fruit juices, liqueurs, cherry brandy and gin served tall over ice.

Where is it from?
The Singapore Sling is a South-East Asian specialty cocktail. The refreshing drink was developed sometime before 1915 by a bartender working at the Raffles Hotel, Singapore.

What does it taste like?
Some say the Singapore Sling is like a tropical punch but this is a slightly more complicated drink. It contains the sweetness and acidity of a couple of different fruit juices and benefits from the colouring and sweetness derived from cherry brandy and grenadine. This sweet and refreshing drink is topped off nicely with a healthy dose of gin.

Singapore Sling’s have a red hue because of the cherry brandy and grenadine used. It is claimed by some that the original Singapore Sling recipe actually used a clear, dry brandy. This would have resulted in a light-colored drink.
